Carol Burnett is the one who came up with kissing her co-stars on the lips at the end of the shows, simply because she wanted to kiss Lyle Waggoner on the lips. Once, she even replied to an audience member---who had asked her how was she so lucky that she got to kiss all of these celebrities---that it was her show, and if they don't kiss her, they don't get the part. (As they say, there's always some truth in every joke.) She indeed appeared to kiss Lyle the last, more often than not, to both make it look innocent and herself blameless, and to not have anyone kiss her lips after him.
