Weeks before the film's release, a New Jersey man named Kerry Gonzalez acquired a copy of its workprint from a friend of an ad agency employee and leaked it online. As it contains temp music, unfinished CGI, and unedited audio, those able to see the leaked workprint heavily criticized the movie's incomplete version. Some studio executives subsequently blamed the movie's box office failure on the leak. After his arrest, Gonzalez pleaded guilty to piracy, sentenced to three years in prison. In the following years, many consider the leak one of the worst in Hollywood history.
