Henry Mancini had agreed to do this movie, based on the original concept of a fifteen-minute essentially dialogue-free opening sequence, involving the discovery and exploration of the alien spacecraft, and the moving of the three aliens back to the Churchill, for which he composed a tonal "space ballet".
