Natalie Portman had stated earlier in her career that she'd never be in a horror movie. She happily changed her mind to appear in Il cigno nero (2010) and this film as her exceptions, as she really wanted to work with the filmmakers. Scheduling conflicts prevented her from appearing in PPZ: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), which she auditioned for and won.
