In this film, Alfred Pennyworth states that he used to work at Buckingham Palace. The palace is a royal residence in London. It was built in 1703 for the politician John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby, and was purchased by the monarch George III in 1761. It has served as the administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom since 1837, when chosen for that role by the then-new monarch Victoria. The palace replaced St James's Palace as the primary residence for the British monarchs, as the Hanoverian dynasty's monarchs considered the older, Tudor-style palace to be uncomfortable.
