The scene where Russell gets electrocuted on stage is based on an incident where KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was severely electrocuted on stage during a concert on Dec 12th, 1976 at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland, Florida. Frehley later wrote a song called "Shock Me" for Kiss' 1977 album Love Gun. The song is not about the incident but the title was inspired by it and was the first time Frehley sang lead vocals on a Kiss song.
