Grug frequently counts his family members. While most people may think Neanderthals (Cave men) couldn't count, anthropologically, they were the first human species to use math as a survival tool. They counted each family member and were able to figure out how many mouths they were able to actually feed. Primarily this was the alpha male of the household's priority, to keep count but the whole clan would be involved in the hunt itself.
