Erik accidentally causes Charles' paralysis by diverting a bullet fired on him by Moira during his attack on the American and Russian fleets which, of course, severs the nerves in his spine that causes him to be wheelchair-bound. This more close to what happened to Charles Xavier in the Ultimate X-Men comics, where he was maimed by Magneto, than in the actual mainstream comic run of Marvel Comics, where he lost his ability to walk in an encounter with a being named Lucifer.
