Mark Hamill originally wanted to audition for one of the main villains, with the Joker being his top pick, but Tim Curry had already been cast in the role. He was also considered for Mr. Freeze, but that role went to Michael Ansara, so Hamill instead voiced Ferris Boyle in Freeze's debut episode Batman: Heart of Ice (1992). After Curry dropped out, Hamill auditioned and was cast, though initially, he had to redub at least Batman: Christmas with the Joker (1992) because animation had already begun. John Glover auditioned for the role of the Joker as well before the casting of Hamill. Glover would eventually go on to voice the The Riddler in the series.
