Adam Savage built a detailed moving clockwork mechanism in the model for the Zion Dock control tower, to show what drove the elevator. Production Designer Owen Paterson was horrified and told him to keep it secret from the Wachowskis because they would want it to move on-screen, massively increasing the difficulty of the shoot. It was subsequently glued in place.
