The composer Harry Manfredini said in an interview that the music used in the scene where Jason's body is unearthed is borrowed from the Latin hymn "Dies Irae." He went on to further state that he had sang that in choir school as a child and he wished that he could have had an orchestra perform it for the movie. He had chosen this particular song as it fit the gothic tone of the movie. This piece of music had also been used as the main theme for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining a few years prior.
