In the comics, Hank Pym becomes abusive / psychotic because of the constant growing / shrinking (Ant Man, Giant Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket), to the point that he puts his wife's life (Janet Van Dyne Pym) in mortal danger because he wants to be the hero rescuing her; he goes through treatment and counseling, and gives up his size-changing adventures. This is reflected in the movie, with Pym and several others mentioning that the constant shrinking changes the brain's chemistry, making that person unstable, and Pym gives up the suit to a new generation... with warnings.
