In writing his score for this film, Oscar winner Hans Zimmer had sought to reinvent the action-movie genre as he had done in 1989 with Black Rain, and hired legendary guitarist Duane Eddy to provide a unique sound in the vein of a Morricone-style Western score, and one that would also fit the film's frenetic pace.
