Michael Collins was accusing of betraying Ireland by signing the Anglo-Irish Treaty as it confirmed the partition of Ireland. He also accepted weapons from the British to defeat the anti-Treaty IRA. The British would have been unable to attack the Four Courts themselves in June-July 1922, as it would have united everyone in Ireland against the Treaty. The treaty was signed on 7th December 1921, in stately home Heathenden Hall. If the name sounds vaguely familiar to film buffs, it's the very same buildings and grounds that would later be re-purposed as the original Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England.
