One of the newspaper titles shown in the final scene says "Spirited raid on oil tanks at Ghent". Along the defensive lines of the rivers Scheldt and Lys, between the cities of Ghent and Kortrijk, battles between the Belgian and the German armies were still going on. King Leopold was able to postpone the surrender of the Belgian Armed Forces until 28 May.
