The film was rated R upon first submission to the MPAA. Though aiming for a PG-13 rating, the directors refused to make further edits and released the final cut to the theaters. Some PG-13 versions obscure any explicit content with alternate takes and by cropping the aspect ratio to widescreen to hide nudity.
