It's easy to imagine the pain Elsa feels when Captain Deertz flips through Jojo's book and comments on the many painful deaths that Jojo has drawn for her fiancé Nathan. What the viewer doesn't learn until much later is that Nathan had already died of tuberculosis, and she knew it.
