William Ivey Long, Tony Award winning costume designer (6 wins for Nine, Crazy for You, The Producers, Hairspray, Grey Gardens and Cinderella) and his team created hundreds of costumes for the main characters. In addition over 200 costumes were needed for the 52 extras on the set. To facilitate quick changes, many costumes use magnets to hold them together. This was a departure from the usual sturdy construction needed for stage costumes. An empty soundstage was needed to store the wardrobe.
