Queen bassist John Deacon retired from music in 1997. Following Freddie Mercury's death, he only performed live three times, and helped complete "Made in Heaven" (the final full album of new material featuring Mercury). His final musical contribution was playing bass on Brian May's song "No-One but You (Only the Good Die Young)" on the "Queen Rocks" compilation. However, since the early days (after several unscrupulous managers took advantage of the band's trust), Deacon kept a close watch on the band's finances, and is still involved in that aspect. In the words of Brian May, "he still keeps an eye on the finances, though. John Deacon is still John Deacon. We don't undertake anything financial without talking to him."
