"The world is at a crossroads", said writer-director Paul Cox in publicity for this picture. "We are in danger and we can't trust human nature anymore. I have no illusions about changing the world, but I want to try and somehow touch people, which is why we called this film 'Human Touch'." Cox remained committed to the ideal of film as an artistic force for good in the world and is saddened by a culture, which demands that films be just another consumer item. He had railed against intervention by studios and financiers for his entire career. Cox added: "I'm very fortunate in that I can still make my own films; if I had to start again now, I wouldn't be able to do it. I was lucky. I was innocent. I had no idea how it worked and I just did it."
