The fifth season's version of The Cosby Show was played by the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, which, at the time, had an African-American conductor, James DePriest, who conducted the orchestra from 1980-2000. He was the nephew of opera singer Marian Anderson and a high school friend of Bill Cosby, who asked DePriest to write a new theme arrangement.
