The film impressively charts the various physical transformations Judy Garland experienced through the decades as a result of chronic weight loss and weight gain. Of particular interest are the years 1955-1961, as Garland made virtually no film or television appearances and even her album covers used stock photos, as the 4'11" star's weight had ballooned to a whopping 180 lbs. The film depicts Garland's almost-unrecognizable physical appearance at this point in her life based on the few photographs that existed. On the other end of the spectrum, Judy Davis lost an alarming amount of weight to accurately portray the final years of Garland's life, in addition to using several sets of capped teeth to emulate different eras (i.e. the studio years vs. the concert years).
