Martin Sheen claimed that he had to hold the lines for Marlon Brando to read and that Brando had even written his lines on his back. Sheen also claimed that for a scene in the cage that was later cut, Brando had written all his lines on the back of the cage. However, the lines were written up and down instead of across, so Brando had to lean sideways to read them.
