The magazine that Jack reads in the lobby and tosses back onto the chair when arising to greet Stuart Ullman is the January 1978 issue of "Playgirl". That issue listed on the cover an article on incest and another titled, "Interview: The Selling of (Starsky & Hutch (1975)'s) David Soul." It could have been a very subtle foreboding plot device placed in the scene by Stanley Kubrick, or it could just be a meaningless joke Kubrick had nothing to do with. In either case, it's unlikely a pornographic magazine would be available for viewing in the lobby. Coincidentally (or not), one of the articles in the magazine references both Stanley Kubrick and his earlier film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
