The 20th anniversary of "American Pie" in 2019 met with some backlash on news and social media over the film's more dated aspects. Particular scrutiny was paid to the hidden camera scenes involving foreign exchange student Nadia, played by Shannon Elizabeth. Looking back, Elizabeth said these scenes were "problematic" in the post-#MeToo era, and would never have been approved these days. But in other interviews, she said that if she hadn't agreed to film those nude scenes, she may not have a career.
