The custom tranquilizer rifles used to fire at the escaped Pterosaurs are loaded with box magazines, and are semi-automatic. Property master Guillaume DeLouche stated in the Jurassic Props featurette that these rifles were made specifically for this movie, as there is no such thing as a semi-automatic multi-dart tranquilizer gun. He also stated that the rifle's automatic bolt action was powered by a nitrogen canister mounted in the stock.
