The film distorts one of the most important and crucial moral lessons of the story: lying. While in the Collodi's novel and the original Walt Disney's animated film a main and fundamental moral lesson is that lying is wrong, especially to try to get away from responsibilities, in this live-action version of the animated film is instead encouraged to make Pinocchio's growing nose reach the key to open the cage in which he was locked up. Something similar has already been made in 2004 in Dreamworks' animated film Shrek 2, for comedic purposes.
