As stated in various interviews Taylor Sheridan and Neal McDonough said that the Beck duo were inspired by real-life brothers who own 300 gas station casinos in Montana, the identities of which were not disclosed.Incidentally, in 1953, Tom and Mary Kenneally started Town Pump as a small full-service gas station in Butte, Montana. After years of steady growth and reinvestment, they diversified their business holdings to include truck stops, car washes, laundromats, hotels, quick serve delis, and gaming operations including casinos co-located in over 200 gas station/convenience stores. In 2013, Tom Kenneally passed away and was succeeded by his son Tom Kenneally Jr, who is one of 7 children and nine grandchildren. The family is known for their shrewd management style and aggressive expansion plans (especially liquor licenses which operate under a quota system in Montana) , and they tend to shy away from media attention. Other than moral and ethical issues surrounding the casinos, profiting off the misfortune of others and close proximity to schools, there is no tangible evidence of any association with criminal activity.
