Lata Mangeshkar's career also got a tremendous boost from this film. Naushad gave Lata a chance to voice Nargis (the main lead) instead of Shamshad Begum (who voiced a supporting lead), who was a leading playback singer of the time. All the songs sung by Lata became an instant hit and Kapoor decided to have her as the main voice for the female lead in his forthcoming movie Barsat.
