The Sardaukar army's chants feature a peculiar vocal technique called "throat singing" or "overtone singing". While its use is attested in traditions from all over the world (with the best known examples coming from Mongolian, Tibetan and Northern European traditions), one of the best known singing styles to employ it in the Mediterranean area is "cantu a tenore", unique to the Barbagia region of Sardinia. The similarity between the Italian island's name and that of the Sardaukar people suggest this might be an intentional choice.
