Over the years, the film has built up strong connections with the Mortal Kombat franchise: -The film features stunts from John Turk and Richard Divizio, both veteran actors of the digitized-era Mortal Kombat games (primarily Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero). Most likely due to being filmed in Chicago, the home of NetherRealm Studios, the company behind Mortal Kombat. -The film was released the same year Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe (featuring both Batman and Joker) was released on home consoles -Michael Jai White (Gambol) would go on to play Jax in the fan film Mortal Kombat Rebirth, which then lead to his casting as the same character in the official web series Mortal Kombat Legacy -Chin Han (Lau) would go on to play Shang Tsung in the 2021 Mortal Kombat live action reboot.
