When the videogame Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was released, it was stablished that Android's 16 design was inspired by Dr. Gero's son who died sometime before the Androids saga began. On this film that story is confirmed as canon since a picture of Dr. Gero's son is shown and his real name happens to be Gevo.
