The original version was over 5 hours long. During editing they decided to cut the 5 hour long movie into 3 movies Part 1 would end when Paco shoots Miklo. Part 2 would contain al of the prison sequences. Part 3 would've involved Montana's daughter growing up and learning how to move drugs and money which would eventually lead her to Miklo and her fathers murder would come full circle.
