Betty and the Hulk physically interact only once in the film. However, the novelization and official illustrated screenplay show they initially interacted more outside the cabin and later in San Francisco. When Betty finds the Hulk in the woods, she trips over a tree root while backing from him, but he catches her before she can hit the ground. Then the Hulk either sets Betty on the dirt or back on her feet before carrying Betty to put her on her car roof. As the Hulk-dogs approach, the Hulk covers Betty's mouth before picking her up and holding her in a protective embrace. When the dogs show up, they immediately leap toward the pair, but the Hulk, still holding Betty, jumps to the other side of the car before shoving her against the door or placing her inside. In San Francisco, the Hulk falls to his knees and cries while seeing Betty approach him. He recoils from her when she gets within arm's length. Betty moves closer, strokes his face, and makes tender shushing noises to him like a mother soothing her child.
