In a 2014 interview, actress Sherilyn Fenn stated that the idea of the film originally came during the filming of I segreti di Twin Peaks (1990). It was initially supposed to be a possible spin-off for Fenn's character, Audrey Horne. Fenn stated that the original concept was supposed to take place either in between the first and second seasons or after season two.
