In the original novel and Intervista col vampiro (1994), Daniel Malloy, called "The Boy" in the novel, interviews Louis de Pointe du Lac as a young man. In the show, Daniel Malloy, as an older man who is a more established interviewer, interviews Louis de Pointe du Lac a second time after Louis invites him to do so decades after the first interview.
