John Landis said that he landed the director's job during post-production of Ridere per ridere (1977) after meeting with then studio executive Sean Daniel, later a producer on this movie, who saw the first cut. Landis was unaware that it was his script doctor who suggested to Daniel, her then-boyfriend, about hiring him for the job.
