In the temple, there are 3 cats (2 adults, 1 kitten) lying in front of the gates, and at least the 2 adults bear a strong resemblance, mainly in terms of coloration, to King Totoro and Catbus from Il mio vicino Totoro (1988), which is one source of inspiration for this film. In fact Tortoro appeared as a stuffed toy in Toy Story 3 - La grande fuga (2010) which is a nod to the friendship between Disney and Hayao Miyazaki.
