Misty and Iris were the only female protagonists who did not start off as rookies. Misty was also considered as a rival by Ash and often acted as his coach during Pokémon battles. Also, unlike Dawn and May, who are Pokemon Coordinators, and Serena, who is a Pokemon Performer, Misty and Iris both focus on training a specific type of Pokemon. Misty focuses on being a Water Pokemon Trainer while Iris focuses on training Dragon-types.
