When a guest appears on the show, his or her DNA is compared with all the other guests who have ever been on the series. This occasionally results in guests discovering they are genetically related to other celebrities. Some examples have been RuPaul Charles, who found out during the sixth season that he is related to first-season guest Cory Booker, and Bernie Sanders and Larry David, who found out on the same fourth-season episode that they are relatives. In episodes aired in 2021, Kasi Lemmons learned that she shares a remote white ancestor with Kevin Bacon, and Roseanne Cash discovered that she shares a distant common Black ancestor with Angela Bassett. In 2022, the show discovered that Lee Daniels and Mia Farrow share a distant common white ancestor. John Lithgow shares a common white ancestor with Henry Louis Gates Jr.
