In 2020, David Ayer was asked about an "Ayer Cut" of this film, in the aftermath of the successful 'ReleaseTheSnyderCut' fan campaign that had resulted in Zack Snyder releasing his Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) (after he had stepped down from directing Justice League (2017) due to his daughter's suicide, and was replaced with Joss Whedon). Ayer said that he was stunned to see how much support there was for this version, and told the fans to "keep it positive". The studio, however, stated to have no intention of making this 'Ayer Cut'.
