Laura Dern's father, Bruce Dern, appeared in the film Mulholland Falls as LAPD Chief W.H. Parker. Parker was also the inspiration for the character of Spock on Star Trek. Winona Ryder, who played the lead role in 1994's Little Women, also played Spock's mother Amanda Grayson in the 2009 film Star Trek.
