For the opening credits for Season 1 on NBC, this was the order of the cast: Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris), Lark Voorhies (Lisa Turtle) and Dustin Diamond (Samuel "Screech" Powers), as they were part of the cast when the show was Good Morning, Miss Bliss (1987) on The Disney Channel. They were followed by Tiffani Thiessen (Kelly Kapowski), Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater), Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) and Ed Alonzo (Max), as they were added to the cast when the Good Morning, Miss Bliss (1987) concept was reworked as Bayside School (1989) for NBC. Dennis Haskins (Principal Richard Belding), who was also part of the original Good Morning, Miss Bliss (1987) cast, went last. For the Season 2 opening credits, the order of the cast was reworked. Mark-Paul Gosselaar was still first, Dustin Diamond was still third, Tiffani Thiessen was still fourth and Dennis Haskins was still last. However, Mario Lopez was placed between Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Dustin Diamond, Elizabeth Berkley behind Tiffani Thiessen and Lark Voorhies behind Elizabeth Berkley. The montage for Ed Alonzo was dropped, though he appeared in Season 2 and the closing credits. A montage of the cast appears after Dennis Haskins opening credits montage. None of the clips were from any Season 2 episodes, however. This order remained the same for Season 3 and half of Season 4, but with scenes from the show's first three seasons. However, when NBC ordered additional episodes for Season 4, both Tiffani Thiessen and Elizabeth Berkley were no longer available. So Leanna Creel was added to the cast as new student Tori Scott for those additional episodes. So the order of the cast for those episodes went as follows: Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Dustin Diamond and Dennis Haskins remained in their positions, Lark Voorhies was now after Dustin Diamond and Leanna Creel was after Lark Voorhies, followed by Dennis Haskins. Because the show was one cast member short in these episodes, two new montages of scenes from these episodes (and one set with Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez and Dustin Diamond from Season 2) were added. There is also for Seasons 3 and 4, the more familiar "soft" rock version of the theme, replacing the "hard" jazzy rock version used for the first two seasons. When the show went into syndication, the opening credits for the series were those used for Seasons 3 and 4 during its original run on NBC. For the Season 1 episodes, they were altered to include Ed Alonzo (Max), a regular cast member during that season. His position in the syndicated opening credits is the same as in the original opening credits on NBC, before Dennis Haskins. The additional montage of the cast from various episodes after Dennis Haskins's montage is dropped with Ed Alonzo's montage insertion into the opening credits for Season 1. Ed Alonzo's montage runs in reverse order from how it did in the original Season 1 opening credits. However, the opening credits for the episodes featuring Leanna Creel as Tori remains the same as during the NBC run, and the "soft" rock version of the theme is used for all episodes.
