Another reason George Cukor was fired was because he was too much of an intimate director and wouldn't be able to handle the epic scenes that were required but the real reason was that Selznick wanted to control every aspect of the production and all he wanted was a technician who would do as he was told. While Cukor only shot a small part of the film his impact was far reaching because the two leading ladies kept going to him for secret coaching.
