When asked about the song at the height of its notoriety, "Blame Canada," Canadian Consul General (and former prime minister) Kim Campbell noted that she was not offended. She pointed out that the song is an obviously silly satirical piece that was not intended to insult her country, but rather ribs Americans who go on foolish moral crusades to avoid taking responsibility themselves.
