Destin Daniel Cretton originally wanted to shoot Shang-Chi's underwater scenes actually underwater but they didn't have the time and it would have been a real pain. Simu Liu would have to hold his breath for a long time, so they had him on a harness and shot in slow motion with a wind machine.
