Leonardo DiCaprio (Calvin Candie) was originally the first choice for the role of antagonist Colonel Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's Bastardi senza gloria (2009). However, Tarantino decided that a German-speaking actor should portray the character, and the part went to Christoph Waltz, who portrays Dr. King Schultz in this film, which marks Waltz's second film collaboration with Tarantino. DiCaprio can, however, speak some German.
