During the scene when the Enterprise crew are watching Captain Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Sybok on the false God's planet surface shortly after landing, a screen that is ignored behind the former hostages show their enemy, the Klingons, approaching. Although not derivative of this story, a virtually similar scene occurs at the beginning of Interstella 5555 (2003), when during a concert performed by The Crescendolls, the security team of the planet are too distracted by the performance to see the antagonist's strike team approach the planet, and are powerless to stop them once the attack takes place.
