Having a recurring theme regarding Jack Arnold's cheapness and thriftiness, the Arnold's differed compared to most people in the number of televisions in their home. At the same time, in 1968, most households possessed one television, with some families having two. Yet the Arnold's are seen to have three televisions. One in their living room, a portable usually seen in the kitchen, and one in their recreational room in the basement. In theme with his cheapness and the era, Jack Arnold did not buy his family a color set until 1972. Black and white sets outsold their color counterparts and were the norm for many families until 1975 when most Americans finally possessed color sets.
