Many sections of the film involve driving the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in the area, including the famous Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge. Historically, storms in the Big Sur area disrupt travel by highway collapse ("A huge piece of California's Highway 1 near Big Sur collapsed into the ocean", Jan 30, 2021), and by bridge damage (". . . storm-damaged Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge", Mar, 2017). The highway collapse took 3 months to reconstruct; the bridge took a greatly-accelerated 8 months.
